Banyuls - Sweet wine
Naturally sweet wine!
Banyuls is a protected AOP (Protected Designation of Origin) Vin Doux Naturel (Natural Sweet Wine). Its geographical area covers four communes located in the South of France, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales region. These communes are Banyuls-sur-Mer, Collioure, Port-Vendres, and Cerbère.
Banyuls is a Naturally Sweet Wine produced from old vines grown in a temperate Mediterranean climate on schist and marl soils.
Its grape varieties are composed of a minimum of 50% Grenache Noir and the remainder of Grenache Blanc, Macabeu Blanc, and Tourbat Blanc. Sometimes Grenache Gris and Carignan are added to complete the blend.
The ideal serving temperature for Banyuls is between 9°C and 13°C. It is best served in small quantities in a white wine glass or a Bordeaux glass. It pairs perfectly with a good Munster cheese, a blue cheese like Fourme d'Ambert, foie gras with figs, melon, and various chocolate desserts.
